Standing Up For What I Believe In!

  • March 12, 2012 11:53 pm

I haven’t really spent much time posting on this blog since I created it. Things just seem to get in the way – you know kids, schools, work, life in general – but when something really gets my attention, I just have to say something about it! In this case, it is the program GCB, taken from the book Good Christian Bitches, by Kim Gatlin.

So, now I am going to voice my opinion of this show. I don’t really care what others think of my opinion. Since it is my site, I can do what I want with it, and if you don’t like what I say in this post or any of the others, then good on you – go voice your opinions somewhere else!

Before you read any further, you need to know that I do not like the show. I think it is a slap in the face to all Christians, and it is an insult to women.

I think GCB is a horrible show. YES, I did watch the first show, or should I say I tried to watch it, and only got through a portion before I had to stop watching it. I was so disgusted with the innuendos, the misuse of biblical scripture, and the insulting way that Christians are represented that I could not stomach it any longer. In addition to that, calling women “Bitches” – really?

Sure ABC decided to ‘supposedly’ change the name of the show to Good Christian Belles, and then shorten it to GCB – however the entire emphasis of the show, is to ridicule Christians. It is quite OBVIOUS that ABC’s intention was to cover up the originally intended name of the show, to try and appease the people that were already complaining about – because the one thing they never did change was the rhyming jingle that was created for the show:

“Welcome to Dallas, home of fancy stitches, lots of riches and Good Christian…”

Anyone that believes that last word of this rhyme is “Belles” is off their rocker!

I personally do not find it funny to ridicule anyone – regardless of their sex, color, religious or personal affiliations or preferences. One of the actresses in this show, Chenoweth, stated that she is a Christian and that the show is about women and their relationships. She also says that women can be both a Christian and a Bitch.

Bitch means female dog – plain and simple. I don’t know what kind of dictionary Ms. Chenoweth uses, and she may like referring to herself as a female dog, which is her prerogative.  I am not one, and I do not appreciate the misuse of the word “Bitch” to refer to women. This word has been grossly misused, and bastardized to the point that the ‘slang’ is too many times thought of as the true meaning. (As mentioned in other posts – the education of the people in this country has gone to pot!)

I also don’t know what kind of Christ Ms. Chenoweth knows. However, the One I know does not ridicule, judge, tear down, destroy or anything of that sort. His teachings were of humility, charity, and brotherly love.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

These are the teaching of the only Christ that I know of, and the ones I think Christian people should re-visit and do a lot of soul searching about. My question to Ms. Chenoweth, and the other actors and actresses of this show is this: Did you actually pray and ask God His opinion of the show, or were you more interested in the fact that it would make your names more prominent and your pockets a bit heavier? A Christian’s life should be to try and set a good example for others, in the hopes that you will be able to lead others to Christ by your example.

You know the Bible says you reap what you sow – here is a very good explanation of this statement that I have taken from wisegeek.com:

“People who go through life “sowing’” kindness and goodness to others, will often be rewarded for their behavior, if not on earth than in eternal life, and those who sow bitterness may face punishment. Paul’s precedes this metaphor with the statement that “God is not mocked,” and this could mean that even if great behavior and kindness doesn’t bring earthly rewards, it will certain bring heavenly ones, while the person who skates through life without acting in a manner approved by God, is not fooling the Creator.”

So, how can a Christian think that a show such as this, is sowing goodness? For the cost of “humor”, you think it is okay? The God I know has a sense of humor – after all, He must have to put up with all the things we have done – but this I truly believe is going too far. It is so sad that it is not just the nonbelievers that are blind to the evils of this world; now many Christians have become so complacent that they too are blinded and their hearts hardened to the truth.

Ok, so I have had my rant – I may continue this in another post, or I may not.
